Stallions, Lions stay unbeaten


KARACHI, Feb 25: Lahore Lions and Sialkot Stallions maintained their unbeaten run in the Twenty20 Cup with impressive wins on Saturday. Led by Mohammad Yousuf, Lahore Lions whipped Hyderabad Hawks by seven wickets at NBP Sports Complex. Kamran Akmal smashed an enterprising unbeaten 47 off 43 balls with four boundaries.

Left-arm spinner Ali Azmat took three wickets for 15 runs to restrict Hyderabad Hawks for a modest 110-9 in 20 overs.

Shoaib Malik once again showed his class to steer favourites Sialkot Stallions to their second win at UBL Sports Complex.

Malik produced best-ever bowling figures of five wickets for 13 runs in three overs with his off-breaks as Rawalpindi Rams put to bat first managed 163-7 in 20 overs. Opener Mohammad Wasim hammered 74 in 48 balls with the aid of ten 4s and a six.

Shoaib Malik finished off the match in style with a dazzling unbeaten 50 in 31 deliveries studded with four 6s and three boundaries and Shahid Yousuf cracked 68 in 42 balls clobbered with five fours and four sixes.

Karachi Zebras staged a dramatic comeback to pull off an unexpected win over Peshawar Panthers after both teams finished with identical totals in the evening fixture at the National Stadium.

Needing just seven for victory in the final over, the Panthers managed only six and lost one wicket in the process before finishing at 160 for seven.

Earlier, the Zebras reached 160 for three. Openers Khurram Manzoor (57 off 40 balls with 10 fours and one six) and Ashraf Ali (50 off 51 balls, five fours) were the leading scorers.

Hasan Raza, the Zebras skipper, turned in a good all-round show. After blasting a 29-ball 46, which included six fours and one six, Hasan chipped with two vital wickets with his leg-spinners.

Defending champions Faisalabad Wolves after losing their opening game to Peshawar Panthers on Friday trounced Multan Tigers by ten wickets at UBL Sports Complex ground.

Pakistan reject Mohammad Hafeez blasted an unbeaten 59 in 29 balls with four 4s and three 6s and Asif Hussain hammered 37 with four boundaries and three sixes after facing 15 balls.

Earlier late on Friday night Lahore Lions inflicted a one wicket defeat on last year’s runners-up Karachi Dolphins in a cliff-hanger with one ball to spare.

Lahore Lions were heading towards defeat with 37 needed in the last two overs with their last pair in.

But Wasim Khan hit ten not out off just five balls with a six and Imran Tahir blasted a six and a four in his match winning unbeaten 11 after facing mere three balls top astonished the strong crowd of about 7000.

Pakistan all rounder Abdul Razzaq laid the foundation for victory with a blazing 63 in 30 balls laced with four 4s and five towering sixes.

Abbottabad Rhinos beat Quetta Bears by seven wickets.

QUETTA BEARS 142-5 in 20 overs (Shoaib Khan 67, Faisal Irfan 26, Hameedullah 15 not out; Sajid Shah 3-30); ABBOTTABAD RHINOS 144-3 in 16.4 overs (Ali Naqvi 41 not out, afar Jadoon 35, Azhar Ali 31, Sajjad Ali 29).

Faisalabad Wolves beat Multan Tigers eight wickets.
