RAWALPINDI, Feb 25: The Pakistan Muslim League (PML) would give ‘privilege cards’ to all its members to facilitate them in resolution of their problems at all public institutions and departments.

This was stated by Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, while speaking to the elected representatives of PML Rawalpindi region here on Saturday.

He said the party supporters and members were as important as ministers so they should be given priority in resolution of their day to day problems in various departments.

“Each union council after securing maximum PML membership would be given party cards that would help resolve their problems in government institutions,” Mr Elahi announced.

The chief minister asked all the government officials to honour the privilege cards and extend every possible help to the party members.

He said PML would be made a true representative party of the masses, adding that the devolution plan introduced by President Pervez Musharraf would be supported by the party whether it was in power or in opposition.

Mr Elahi said the quake-affected people in Murree would be given substantial compensation, adding that a water channel from Jhelum River would be extended to Murree.

He said under the free education programme, about 2 million children had been enrolled in different schools in Punjab.

Mr Elahi said 2006 was the year of Pakistan Muslim League and congratulated all the representatives on being elected from the party platform.

Meanwhile, some elected women counsellors from Taxila criticized the chief minister’s statement regarding issuance of privilege cards to PML supporters, saying it was politics of favouritism.

“It means that those who are members of Pakistan Muslim League would be given priority, while supporters of other political parties would be ignored,” they said while talking to this reporter.
