SAHIWAL, Feb 25: The son of district PML chief accused of slashing the tongue of his wife in a bid to grab her inherited property escaped from a local court on Saturday after his pre-arrest bail cancellation.
Ahmed Nawaz Shah Khagga, son of Pir Muhammad Nawaz Shah Khagga, also broke left arm of Shazia, the mother of his four children.
Khagga allegedly withdrew an amount of Rs 700,000 from Shazia’s account. Now he wanted possession of property she had inherited from her parents.
On her refusal, the accused first locked her in a room and then subjected her to severe physical torture.
Shazia’s brother Muhammad Tahir Shah Khaga got registered a case of attempted murder against Ahmed Nawaz who, on Feb 14, got pre-arrest bail.
The court of additional sessions judge cancelled the bail on Saturday but police showed no effort to catch the fleeing accused.
DOs: The CM’s Inspection Team, headed by Syed Tasadaq Husain Bukhari, on Saturday paid surprise visits to the district government offices and found eight departmental heads absent from duty.
Those found absent by the inspection team were identified as EDO (revenue) Malik Waqar Ahmed Khan, DO (revenue) Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, DDO (R) Mirza Shaukat Ali, EDO (community development) Muhammad Saleem Chaudhry, DO (finance) Rana Muhammad Khan, DDO (finance) Abdul Razzaq Naseem, DO (highway) Shafqat Ali Butter and district forest officer Javed Gill. Most of the employees of these departments did not attend the offices by 9.00am.
The team also inspected the DHQ hospital and noted all the arrangements in order. Dental surgeon Farrukh Shahzad and Dr Nadar Shabbir of Rural Health Centre, Chak 55/5-L were found absent while the X-ray machine was found defective for the last one year.
The team checked the Grain Market and Yousafwala police stations. The team noted that students at Chak 55/5-L primary school were subjected to forced labour. —Correspondent
