Polo: Bankers cruise into final

LAHORE, Feb 24: Two goals each by Hissam Ali Hyder and Jose Rivas enabled Bank Alfalah to cruise into the final of the Aibak Cup polo defeating Green Force 6-4 on Friday.

After being level 1-1 in the first chukker, the bankers surged ahead 3-2 in the second.

Hissam scored two for the winners while Rivas added one.

For the losers, Jota Chavanne, who scored all four, struck two.

In the third chukker, the bankers increased the lead 6-3.

Rivas banged home twice while Faaiz Rahim Khan slammed one goal.

Chavanne scored his third and pumped in his fourth goal in the next chukker but only to reduce the lead (6-4).

In the match of the day, four-goal Ahmed Ali Tiwana and three by Guillermo Cuitino helped Diamond Paints qualify for the subsidiary final, beating Living Concept by narrow margin 9-8 1/2.

Ahmed Ali Tiwana scored two goals in the first chukker but the losers led 2 1/2-2, due to 1 1/2 half goal handicap. Vishal Singh, who scored four goals for the losers struck first.

The winners took the lead for the first time in the second chukker (5-3 1/2).

Asif Ali Tiwana scored back-to-back goals while Ahmed scored his third. Umar Sadik banged home for the losers.

A hat trick by Cuitino in the third chukker helped Diamond Paints to increase the lead (8-5 1/2). Vishal scored two goals for the losers.

In the fourth chukker, Ahmed completed his tally of four goals, before the losers tried to bounce back with a burst of three goals but fell short by half-goal.

Vishal scored his fourth, before Agha Murtaza Ali Khan scored back-to-back.
