PESHAWAR, Feb 24: A spokesmen of the Governor’s Secretariat for Fata said on Friday that the military operation in Waziristan had not been stopped. Clarifying reports carried by a number of newspapers about governor’s address to a tribal jirga at Miramshah on Thursday, he said it was a pause giving the political process a chance to establish durable peace in the area.
He said it was crystal clear from the text of the speech, wherein the governor had warned the tribesmen of vigorous and severe operation if they failed to bring about peace and normalcy to their area through the tribal customs and traditions.
“The governor had specifically said that in case of failure, a stern military operation will be conducted, which may have dangerous consequences for the respective tribesmen,” the spokesman added.—APP
