Mahboob hits fine century

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23: Mahboob Ali cracked a fine century as Quaid-i- Azam University (QAU) advanced to the final of the Inter-university (Zone C) Championship with a 91-run defeat of International Islamic University Islamabad (IOWA).

Batting first QAU posted 232 in 35 overs losing six wickets with Mahboob stroking a match-winning 110 in which he struck 16 fours. It was the first century of the championship and put the Quaidians in a clash with NUML on Friday.

Chipping in with a useful contribution was Majid Khan who scored 40. Asif and Farhan took two wickets each.

In reply IIUI were restricted for 141 in 28.2 overs with Anwar capturing four wickets and Naveed snapping up two. Bilal topscored with 30 runs.

Earlier IIUI defeated PIEAS by 42 runs the losers bowled out for 130 in their chase for 173.

IIUI’s total revolved round knocks by Nasir (40) and Bilal (30). The chief wicket-taker for PIEAS was Nasir who captured five while Adnan took three wickets.

For PIEAS Naveed scored 44 followed by Zeeshan who contributed 30 runs. Asif picked up four wickets.

The winner of Friday’s final will move into the next round of the championship which will be staged by GC University Faisalabad from March 7.
