Cases against PPP MPA condemned

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23: President of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Makhdoom Amin Fahim on Thursday condemned the institution of two criminal cases against party MPA from Sindh Assardass D. Hemnani at Ghotki police station.

In a statement, he said the registration of criminal cases on the eve of Senate election was aimed at rigging the election.

He said the PML-Q government came into being on the basis of rigged election. “True to its genesis it is now bent upon rigging the Senate elections as well,” he added.

“The PML-Q government is following an agenda of political victimization, foisting of one party government and stifling the voice of opposition. The registration of fictitious criminal cases against a sitting MPA just a few days before Senate elections is just another proof of the state policy to rig the elections,” he said.

Mr Fahim said the police officials who acted as party workers of the ruling party in registering false cases must be suspended immediately and a judge of high court should hold inquiry. “The government is systematically denying political space to the opposition. This can only bode ill for the integrity of the federation,” he said.

He said the human rights bodies and enlightened public opinion must take note of the fact that the government continued to target the opposition, curtail its political space and deny it legitimate political role.

“Be it known to the rulers that no matter what they do the opposition will not be deterred. The opposition will continue to conduct accountability of the rulers inside and outside the Parliament.

It will continue to expose the fascist practices and policies of the regime at the bar of public opinion. It is determined not to let the regime achieve its desired results in the Senate elections either through horse trading or intimidation of opposition of MPs,” he added.
