KARACHI: Govt pledges protection to people’s life, property
KARACHI, Feb 23: Matters of the prevailing law and order situation in the province and others came under review at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of the Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, on Thursday.
The joint efforts of the administration, law enforcing organizations and people were appreciated and it was decided to further intensify efforts for improving law and order.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Adviser on Information Salahuddin Hyder, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia, Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal, Home Secretary Brig (Retd) Ghulam Mohammed Muhtaram, DCO Fazalur Rehman, City Police Chief Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, acting Principal Officer Javed Hanif and other officials.
It was said in the meeting that the government fully condemned every act that hurt the sentiments of Muslims, however, it was made clear that no one would be allowed to play with the life and property of people under the cover of protests.
The governor clearly stated that our religion, constitution, law and even moral values taught us respect for every religion and humanity.
He ordered that effective steps should be taken in this regard with the cooperation of all segments of society.
Ibad exchanged views with the meeting participants about the establishment of an ulema Council.
The meeting expressed concern over such protest programmes, which affected the country’s economy and livelihood of people.
The governor said the protection of such families and their livelihood was the collective responsibility of all.
He directed the authorities to provide full protection to people and take all possible steps for providing security to their life and property.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim visited the Governor’s House on Wednesday evening and held a meeting with Governor.
They overall situation, particularly law and order, amidst protests against blasphemous caricatures, was reviewed at the meeting, besides development works.
The governor and chief minister expressed satisfaction over people’s adherence to decency, Islamic values and religious traditions while registering their protest. They paid tributes to all ulema and religious scholars, as well as general public, in this context.
They also appreciated the performance of the law-enforcement agencies in ensuring peace, and agreed to take further steps for making the province an exemplary one viz-a-viz peace and tranquillity.
Dr Arbab appreciated Dr Ibad’s move to set up an Ulema council and lauded his vision in this regard.
financial district: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has called for establishment of an off-shore financial district and asked the provincial and city district governments to make progress in this regard.
Presiding over a meeting at Governor’s House here on Thursday, he directed the authorities concerned to include this project in Karachi Master Plan in a conspicuous manner.
The meeting was attended by Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, Senior Member Board of Revenue Syed Anwar Haider, Member Land Utilization Khalid Mahmood Soomro, Secretary Local Government Mohammed Ishaq Lashari, DCO Fazlur Rehman, EDOs Saleh Farooqi and Ateeq Baig and other officials.
The governor issued directives for geological survey of the land for off-shore district and later developing it on modern lines with modern facilities.
This district, he pointed out, would promote economic activities and also have diplomatic enclave, recreational resorts, water sports and similar other activities.
He believed that the establishment of off-shore district would be the world’s seventh biggest city into a new era.
“The basic objective of all these activities is to augment the sources of employment and improve the living conditions of the common man,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan directed the local government department to make it binding upon all the district governments to ensure transparency in land matters and protection of government land.
He said that strict watch should be kept on activities of land mafia all over the province and contain the trend of occupying vacant land by constructing walls thereon. In this regard, he directed that all relevant record should be kept transparent and secured.—APP/PPI
