KARACHI: Decision on dangerous building today

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 23: The fate of a ground-plus-six apartment block, — Rabia View — of which two or three RCC columns sank on Wednesday, will be decided on Friday at a meeting of the KBCA’s Technical Committee for Dangerous Buildings which will be attended by the building’s engineer, architect and contractor.

Rabia View, standing on the plot GRW-114, Garden West, was evacuated by the KBCA on Thursday to ensure safety of the people living in its 50 apartments on Thursday.

Chief Controller of KBCA Mumtaz-ur-Rehman, on receiving reports about the sinking of the building’s columns, sent the Technical Committee for Dangerous Buildings to assess the situation.

The committee submitted its report to the CCOB the same day. It observed that the building had suffered the damage owing to its choked sewerage system.

Among the members of the committee were Controllers of Buildings (Structure), Mohammad Shafiq, COB Mohammad Arif, Saddar Town’s COB Muneer Bhambro, representative of the Pakistan Engineering Council Engineer Sami, representative of the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners Tasawwar Abidi, Prof Shoaib Ismail, Engineer Bashir Ahmed Khan and Mr Nisar.

Upon receiving the report, the CCOB asked the committee to conduct further investigation about the building and also convene its meeting with the concerned builder, engineer and architect, as well as Nazim of Saddar Town Mohammad Dilawar, on Friday so that a decision about the building could be taken.
