LTTE denies murder charge

By Our Correspondent

BATTICALOA (Sri Lanka), Feb 23: While the government and the Tamil Tigers concluded the second and final day of peace talks in Switzerland, Tiger rebel spokesperson Dayandidi denied an allegation that a Muslim national shot dead in eastern Batticaloa on Wednesday had been the target of the LTTE.

“We had nothing to do with the shooting,” the LTTE spokesperson said when contacted by telephone.

A large number of the country’s seven per cent Muslim population are domiciled in the east and have been victims of violence unleashed by the LTTE in the past.

Among the LTTE ceasefire violations reported to the Nordic truce monitors are killings and abductions of Muslims.
