2 armymen killed, four injured in ambush

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, Feb 22: Two army personnel were killed and four others were injured on Wednesday in an ambush in Bolan area, some 100 km east of here.

In another incident, three civilians were injured in a landmine blast in Sangsilla area, on Wednesday.

“One soldier died on the spot and the other succumbed to his injuries in hospital,” official sources said.

The sources said that an army convoy of four vehicles was on its way to Sibi from Quetta when it came under attack near the Kandlani bridge in Bolan area.

“First armed men on nearby mountains opened fire with small arms and then fired three rockets. One of the rockets hit a vehicle killing a soldier on the spot,” the sources said, adding that five other soldiers suffered injuries. They were rushed to the CMH, Sibi, where one of them died.

Those who died were identified as Mohammad Suleman and Mohammad Qayyum. Zawar, Babar Ejaz, Sobat Khan and Noor Mohammad are under treatment.

A contingent of security forces was rushed to the area and a search operation was launched.

An unknown caller identifying himself as Mirak Baloch, a spokesman of the Balochistan Liberation Army, claimed responsibility for the attack and said: “The BLA is behind the ambush at army convoy.”

The sources also said that another pipeline had been blown up in the Pir Koh gas field.

CASES AGAINST BUGTI: The Sui police have registered another case against Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, his grandson and 15 others on various charges.
