ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: Muttahida Qaumi Movement MNA from Hyderabad Professor Khalid Wahab died on Wednesday morning at the Federal Government Services Hospital here after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 69.
Prof Wahab suffered the attack at his residence in the Parliament Lodges at 5am and he was taken to the hospital by his wife and MQM’s woman MNA Shamim Akhtar. He suffered another heart attack 15 minutes later.
Besides his wife’ Prof Wahab has left behind three sons and a daughter. His body was taken to Hyderabad in the afternoon where he was laid to rest in the evening.
National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain and Deputy Speaker Sardar Mohammad Yaqub and federal ministers expressed grief over Prof Wahab’s death.
Aziz Malik adds from Hyderabad: Professor Wahab was born in Rampur, India, in 1937.
After partition he migrated to Hyderabad. He did his BSc from the Government College in Hyderabad and MA from Urdu University, Karachi. He was appointed lecturer in the City College, Hyderabad, in 1959 and was promoted as assistant professor in 1970. He worked as principal of the Government College Saeedpur and later moved to the Government Islamia College, Badin.
In 1990, he was appointed deputy director (colleges), Hyderabad region, and retired as director (colleges) in 1997. Professor Wahab was a highly respected educationist and had remained active in literary activities. His passing away was mourned by leaders of various political parties, educationists, and teachers’ unions.
