KARACHI, Feb 22: Five-year-old bay horse Blue Breeze interrupted the winning run of mare Aie Bahar outpacing by four lengths in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.

Trained by S. A. Zaidi, he was galloped home by jockey M. Yousuf in the pack of seven contestants.

Mohammad Essa, the rider of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara’s mare, Aie Bahar, was immediately fined a sum of Rs5,000 for ‘unsatisfactory riding’.

Finishing one and a half length behind was Lucky Step while Arab Hi Arab completed the frame.

Tried first time, five-year-old mare, Beautiful Bee, presented its owner- cum-trainer Abdul Ghaffar a winner in the opening race beating Raka Poshi by 9 ½ lengths. Eight-year-old bay horse, Super Time, who was also in contention was hooked and failed to even finish among the top three.

The riders of Super Time and Sherry The Great Salim Ahmed and M. Alam were fined Rs10,000 apiece in addition to getting suspension for a month on the charges of ‘unsatisfactory riding’.

With Ashiq Ali aboard, Auzy, the nine-year-old bay horse surprised the pundits by picking up the spoils in the next race. Fancied Lucky View settled for third place.

In yet another surprise, ranked outsider mare Piyari Mehbooba humbled favourite Eager Saint by 2 ½ lengths to win the third race.

Asghar Ali piloted home chestnut Scarface in the six furlongs fourth race with 10 runners vying for honours. He was chased by Kicking King and Bilal Choice for the next two places.

Yousuf excelled among the riders by performing the only double of the day capturing two back to back races. After sprinting Blue Breeze to victory in the fifth race, he rode home Iztrab in the next.

Four-year-old sibling, Baba Jani did its owner Tanveer Mirza proud by picking up the seventh race of the programme after favourite filly Eswarah was withdrawn.

Meanwhile, the concluding race of the programme was cancelled by the KRC administrator following a hue and cry by the pundits.

Shortly prior to the race after all the 17 horses reported at the starting line, rider Fahim K was called to replace Nasim Ahmed on the favourite Victory Symbol suspecting a foul play.

This was followed by re-betting and finally cancellation of the race.
