Protests in Karachi over shrine blast

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 22: Shops and markets in many areas of the city were closed and a large number of people staged protests to condemn Wednesday’s bomb attack on the Imam Ali Al-Hadi shrine in Iraq.

Groups of people took to the street in various localities, including Ancholi, Rizvia Society, Jaffar-i-Tayyar Society, Abbas Town and Purani Numaish, in the evening, and expressed anger over the blast at the shrine.

The protesters burnt tyres and shouted slogans.

Police reached all the troubled spots in an attempt to defuse the tension. Senior police officials said later that the situation had returned to normal in all areas.
