Top seed Rambel lifts Shah Cup

PESHAWAR, Feb 21: Top seed Rambel Gul lifted the trophy after defeating the 2nd seed Nouman Shah in the final of the 1st Shah Snooker Cup at Green’s Club on Tuesday. Rambel, winner of Frontier Open, faced defending champion Nouman in the best of nine frames and won 5-4 in a three hours and 10 minutes encounter.

Nouman led the way right from the start winning the first two frames 81-33, 71-30 as Rambel went for cue shots and tied the score winning the third and fourth frames 90-14, 55-34.

Nouman then clinched the fifth 66-43 after a tough battle.

Down one frame, Rambel first levelled the frames 3-3 winning the sixth 56-44 and then raced up to win the seventh 70-30. Nouman had to struggle for each single point to win the eighth frame 83-29.

In the decisive last frame Rambel gave no room to his rival to put up resistance as he clinched the trophy 81-22.

Rambel also recorded the highest break of 60 and 77 in the final while Nouman scored a break of 50 in the first frame.—APP
