GUJRANWALA, Feb 21: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) gave all sanitary workers to union councils to revamp sanitary system under the direct supervision of nazims and naib nazims on the directive of district nazim on Tuesday.

The nazims of union councils complained at a meeting of district council presided over by district nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha that Wasa had failed to improve sanitation and demanded that all sanitary workers should be handed over to union councils.

Wasa director Mujahid Khokhar said the agency handed over these workers to union councils and directed them to work hard.

FACTORY FIRE: Cotton and machinery were reduced to ashes in a factory fire in Ghakkhar town on Tuesday.

Factory owner Muhammad Arshad suspected that someone threw a burning cigarette in the factory as a result of which cotton caught fire.

The fire brigade put out the fire after two hours’ struggle.

Mr Arshad said an estimate of loss was being assessed.
