PESHAWAR, Feb 21: The Peshawar regional directorate of human rights and the ministry of law, justice and human rights have installed security cameras in the juvenile section of Haripur central prison.
According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, cameras were installed a few days ago on the directives of the provincial human rights monitoring committee. The funding for the installation of the cameras inside the barracks of the juvenile section was provided by Save the Children, Sweden.
The Deputy Director of the Directorate, Mashood Ahmad Mirza, stated that the directorate, realising the problems of bullying and likely abuse of the juvenile prisoners, came up with the idea of eliminating the problems by installing security cameras.
He said that the authorities had also stopped the entry of convict adult staff called ‘sheen posh’ in the juvenile section because they happened to be one of the main sources of these ills.
