KARACHI: Christian leaders call on Arbab

KARACHI, Feb 21: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that Islam preaches peace, love and friendship and that the Muslims have been especially asked to protect the rights of the minorities.

He said this while talking to various delegations of Christians, who called on him at the Chief Minister’s House on Tuesday. The delegations were led by bishops Sadiq Daniel and Ejaz Inayat.

Dr Arbab said that a high-level inquiry was being conducted into the desecration of Holy Quran in Sukkur and the incident of setting on fire two churches by some people.

He said that it was not confirmed as yet whether the accused was a Muslim. It is also being investigated as to what were the motives behind this incident, he added. The chief minister however, assured that stern action would be taken against those found guilty.

He assured that it was the prime duty of the government of Sindh to protect the places of worship of the minorities.

Dr Arbab assured that the damage caused to the two churches in Sukkur would be compensated.

He said that protection of the churches in Sindh would be ensured. The bishops assured the chief minister that the Christian community would fully cooperate with the Sindh government.

They also reposed full confidence in the steps that had been taken by the Sindh chief minister.—APP
