KARACHI: Governor reviews law, order situation


KARACHI, Feb 21: The Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, has said that coordinated measures would continue to be maintained for establishing an exemplary law and order in the province and these would be made more effective.

In this regard, he directed the concerned authorities to go forward by maintaining liaison with all sections of society.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting held at the Governor’s House on Tuesday in which the overall law and order situation in the province was reviewed.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister Abdul Rauf Siddiqui, Adviser on Information Salahuddin Hyder, Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia, Home Secretary Brig (Retd) Ghulam Mohammed Muhtaram, IG Police Jehangir Mirza and other officials.

The governor appreciated the performance of the police, Rangers and other organizations responsible for maintaining law and order on various occasions during the last week.

He also eulogised the efforts of concerned authorities for their immediate response and keeping the situation under control on the issue of Churches in Sukkur.

He observed that, immediately upon receipt of the report, five provincial ministers reached Sukkur and brought the situation under control.

Ibad directed the officials to ensure steps for protecting the lives of people in the province without any discrimination.

He informed that an ulema council was being set up to promote sectarian harmony and Ittehad Bain-ul-Muslimeen.

In this regard, he said, arrangements would be made for symposia, conventions and other programmes for creating greater awareness and promoting the golden principles of Islam.

SOCAIL FORUM: The Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, has welcomed the holding of the programmes of World Social Forum here and hoped that prestige of the country will enhance.

In this regard, he assured of his all possible cooperation and issued directive to concerned authorities for the success of programmes at every level.

He was talking to a delegation of organisers of World Social Program which, with acting Nazim Nasreen Jalil, which called on him at Governor’s House here Tuesday.

The delegation appreciated the governor’s efforts for better law and order situation and revival of daily life in Karachi.

They informed that it was due to obtaining peaceful conditions here that Karachi has been selected as the venue for World Social Forum 2006.

They said that the objective of World Social Forum is protection of rights of every person without any discrimination and humanitarian agenda.

The governor told the delegation that every activity, to be held here, will be welcomed for revival of very identity of Karachi and for positive changes.

The forum organisers said that for this very reason they want to undertake initiative for positive changes in Pakistan from Karachi.

The delegation included Arif HHasan, Fahimuzzaman, B M Kutti, Karamat Ali, Saleha Athar, Anusha Alam and others.

DCO Fazlur Rehman, CCPO Niaz Ahmed Siddiqi and other senior officials were also present.—APP
