KARACHI: Company robbed of Rs18.5m

KARACHI, Feb 21: Bandits committed robbery worth Rs18.5 million at an office of a customs agent in Kharadar on Tuesday. Three bandits barged into the office of Sabir and Company, a clearing and forwarding firm at the G Alana Road in Kharadar police limits. Taking all persons present at the office hostage at gunpoint, they looted cash and prize bonds worth Rs18.5million and escaped.

The area police said the robbery had been committed at about 11am, but no complaint was made and even neither was any information given to the police by the complainant until afternoon.

A police party on their routine patrolling came to know of the incident when they reached the area. The police contacted the company’s owner, who told the police that only 1,700 Dirhams (Rs4,000) were snatched away by bandits.

However, after a while, the company’s owner informed the Madadgar 15 on phone that bandits had looted cash and prize bonds worth Rs18.5million, the police added.

The police were looking into the complaint but simultaneously also investigating as to why had the company’s owners failed to lodge a complaint soon after the incident.

Meanwhile, in other incidents of robberies, Agha Riaz was robbed of Rs1 million in Landhi, Meharban Ali was deprived of Rs0.12million and a mobile phone in Shah Faisal Colony, Nadeem was robbed of Rs0.14million and a mobile in New Karachi, the house of Abdul Raheem and office of Shahzad were broken into by bandits in Saeedabad and Mithadar police limits respectively.

Ghous-ur-Rehman, Ism-e-Ali, Ansar Ahmed, Abdul Rehman and Saeed Ahmed were deprived of cash, cellphones and other valuables when unidentified robbers intercepted them separately in SITE, Shershah, Shahrah-e-Noorjahan, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Preedy police precincts.

CELLPHONES: At least 46 citizens were deprived of their cellphones across the metropolis, of which 24 cellphones were snatched at gunpoint and 22 others stolen.

VEHICLES: At least 24 vehicles were taken away from various city areas, police said on Tuesday.

Three motorbikes were snatched at gunpoint while seven cars and 14 motorcycles were stolen at various localities. Police claimed to have recovered four cars.

BODY FOUND: The decomposed body of a young man was found in a hilly area of Mochko on Tuesday.

The body was found in Sector 19-A when some persons passing through the area informed the police.

Later, the body was shifted to Civil Hospital for autopsy. Medico-legal experts said unidentified assailants might have murdered the man with some hard and blunt object and stabbing later in his chest.
