KARACHI: Nephrology moot from tomorrow

KARACHI, Feb 21: The Kidney Foundation, in coordination with International Society of Nephrology, is organizing its 7th Annual Symposium here from Feb 23 to 26. Over 300 nephrologists from across the country and 25 known experts from around the globe will be attending the Symposium with the theme “Frontiers in nephrology.”

The guest speakers include Dr. John G Winning (US), Dr. Gannet Baker (Australia), Dr. Hutchinson (UK), Dr Alan G Collin (US) Dr George G Abraham Dr. Habib Akbani (UK), Dr. Ahad Ghaus (Iran), Dr Stanley Sheldon, Dr Laimue (Belgium) and several other known medical professionals.

Keeping in view shrinking opportunities for medical professionals from developing countries to seek advanced training in the developed world, organizers of the seventh international symposium of Kidney Foundation -Pakistan and International Society of Nephrology — have sponsored two junior doctors each, from Iran, SriLanka, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan to attend the meeting.

The senior nephrologist further highlighting the significance of the event said the world, including developing states are currently exposed to fast and constant surge in the incidence of non-communicable diseases - of which diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney diseases top the list.

These happen to be the silent killers and there is an urgent need to discuss measures to face the challenge emerging as serious threat to the people, he said, adding that the participants would also contribute towards developing an efficient strategy and its proper implementation by sharing their experiences.—APP
