KARACHI: Concern expressed over church attacks

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb. 21: The Idara-i-Aman-o-Insaf has expressed concern over attacks on churches in Sukkur and demanded that action be taken against the law enforcement agency personnel who failed to protect the churches.

In a statement, it said that such criminally irresponsible act, on part of the LEA personnel, has created fear and feelings of insecurity among the religious minorities in the country.

The statement said that the unfortunate and disgraceful incident of took place in Sukkur on Feb 19, and according to initial police enquiries, the incident occurred owing to the maliciously motivated false accusation of desecration of Holy Quran by a person, who wanted to take revenge from a Christian.

The statement further said that the Idara and the Karachi Diocese of Church of Pakistan strongly condemn the irresponsible and insensitive behaviour of all those who published blasphemous cartoons of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (SAW).

It said that the Pope Benedict XV and all the Bishops of Pakistan had joined the Muslim community of the country, as well as all over the world, in protesting and demanding a code of conduct for media respecting the prophets, holy books, places of worships, and religious beliefs of all religions.
