Kallis misses first ODI against Aussies

BLOEMFONTEIN: South Africa will be without all rounder Jacques Kallis for the first ODI against Australia in Centurion next week. Kallis, who returned home prematurely from the recent tour to Australia because of an elbow problem, was not included in the squad named on Sunday.

But there was a place for fast bowler Makhaya Ntini, who left the tour early due to a leg injury.

“Jacques Kallis is a key member of our team and it is in our best interests he recovers fully before we bring him back,” selection convenor Haroon Lorgat said in a news release.

Squads:

One-day: Graeme Smith (captain), Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, Boeta Dippenaar, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Hall, Justin Kemp, Charl Langeveldt, Andre Nel, Makhaya Ntini, Robin Peterson, Shaun Pollock, Ashwell Prince, Johan van der Wath.

Twenty20: Smith, Loots Bosman, de Villiers, Gibbs, Hall, Kemp, Neil McKenzie, Ntini, Justin Ontong, Peterson, Roger Telemachus, Thandi Tshabalala, van der Wath.—Reuters
