KARACHI, Feb 19: A man and a woman were gunned down in different localities of the city on Sunday. Rehmanullah, 22, a resident of Sector II, Pukhtoonabad, was shot at and wounded by unidentified gunmen, who opened fire at him near his residence in the Manghopir police limits. The assailants fled leaving the victim in a pool of blood.

Area people took him to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the victim died. The body was handed over to the deceased’s family after autopsy.

The police registered a case (FIR 17/2006) against unidentified killers on a complaint of Rehmatullah, the brother of the victim. However, the police failed to locate the culprits or even ascertain the motive for the killing immediately.

In another incident in Shah Faisal Colony, Dilshad Bibi, 40, resident of Natha Khan Goth, was shot dead allegedly by her husband while her daughter Shaista suffered bullet wounds.

Nawaz Khan, a security guard, exchanged hot words with his wife Dilshad Bibi early in the morning over a petty matter and lost his temper. He pulled out his pistol and fired shots at his wife. Dilshad was his second wife and as her daughter came to rescue her mother, Nawaz shot at her also. Both the mother and daughter suffered bullet wounds and fell to the ground. Nawaz fled away with his weapon.

The injured mother and daughter were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced Dilshad Bibi dead on arrival. Her daughter Shaista was, however, admitted to a ward and her condition was stated to be stable.

Zar Sher, the son of the deceased woman from her first husband, told the police that his mother got married again after the death of his father. Nawaz was his stepfather, who visited their house once or twice a month. Both had frequent disputes over petty matters but they were compelled to keep their relationship intact due to family pressures.

He told the police that his stepfather got angry, pulled out his pistol, and fired at his mother and sister. Zar Sher said Nawaz also opened fire at Zar and his wife but they remained unhurt.

Police registered an FIR (36/2006) against Nawaz for killing his wife and wounding the daughter on a complaint of his stepson Zar Sher.
