KARACHI: PIA’s global marketing moot begins

KARACHI, Feb 18: Over 1,000 delegates from all over the PIA network are attending the airlines’ second global marketing conference, which began on Saturday. The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PIA, Tariq Kirmani, in his opening remarks said his primary effort in the PIA involved the laying down of foundations for all times to come.

He said the PIA never had a firm brand image although it was known both nationally and internationally. The idea was to improve its image by improving the PIA’s product and services. What is required, he said, was a change of mindset. “Once this happens, the change of mindset flows down the hierarchy over time,” he said.

Kirmani pointed out that the national carrier had major challenges to face from India and the Far East as well as within the country. New carriers were expanding their capacity and enhancing their services. Even new airlines in the Gulf were coming up and some were reinventing themselves with rigour. “We have to compete and match them and where possible to exceed their efforts,” he said.

The positive results are already forthcoming, Kirmani said and mentioned some hardcore statistics for the last year in comparison to previous year. Country managers of the PIA from its worldwide global network then presentations.—APP
