Polo: Araya on goal rampage

LAHORE, Feb 17: Three-goal Dhruvpal Godara helped Al Khan march into the final of the Punjab Cup polo on Friday beating Bank Alfalah 10-9 in the eight-chukker match played over two days.

The two teams started the match with the score 5-5 from the first four chukkers.

The winners led 7-6 in the fifth chukker as Godara and Arsalan Najib struck one each. Hissam Ali Hyder struck a goal for the bankers.

The winners remained ahead 9-8 in the sixth chukker as both teams scored two each. Godara and Arslan again struck a goal each. For the losers, Jota Chavanne and Hissam added a goal each.

The bankers levelled 9-9 in the seventh chukker through Chavanne.

No goal was scored in the eighth chukker as Godara struck the winner in the extra ninth chukker to complete the tally.

Seven-goal Diego Araya, helped Lindt Chocolate qualify for the subsidiary final, earning a narrow 10-9 win against Colony Textiles.

The losers by virtue of two-goal handicap led the first chukker 4-2.

Usman Haye and Sufi Haris pumped in a goal each for the winners.

For the losers, six-goal Vishal Singh scored both goals.

The winners managed to level the score 5-5 in the second chukker as Araya scored two while Sufi Haris his second. Umar Sadik added a goal for the losers.

The third chukker was a clash between Araya and Vishal as both scored two goals each as the two teams came out with 7-7 score.

In the thrilling fourth chukker, Vishal put Colony ahead 8-7 but soon Araya levelled the score 8-8.

But Vishal again put Colony ahead 9-8 by scoring his sixth goal.

However, it was end of losers resistance as Araya hit back-to-back goals to seal the fate of the match.
