Hamza bags double crown

KARACHI, Feb 17: Upcoming Khwaja Hamza is a star in the making. He proved this by winning a doubles crown in the Open tennis championship at Karachi Gymkhana on Friday.

Hamza edged out Imran Mooraj 6-0, 6-0 in the boys’ U-9 final to complete the feat. He had pocketed the boys’ U-11 title the other day.

Hamza clinched top honours in the boys’ U-11 category in Sindh ranking tournament last month also. With two wins in a row, he has attained No 1 ranking in Sindh in U-11.

Top seed Nasir Mushtaq faces second seed Ghulam Abbas Panju in the juniors U-17 final on Saturday.

Nomi Qamar — Asad Ali Bhagat are pitted against Khalid Ali Nazar — Manzer in the men’s doubles final to be played simultaneously. The finals start at 4.30pm.

Meanwhile, eight Sindh players will leave for Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday to compete in national ranking tournament being held from Feb 20 to 26.

The players are Aqeel Khan, Nomi Qamar, Jalil Khan, Khalid Ali Nazar, Yasir Khan, Danish Ahmed, Syed Abbas Raza and Syed Yasir Raza.
