Another day of protests in Sindh: Blasphemous cartoons
HYDERABAD, Feb 17: Protest demonstrations against publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in European newspapers continued throughout Sindh on Friday.
In Hyderabad, protest demonstrations were held by Jamat-i-Raza-i-Mustafa (peace be upon him), Tanzeem-i-Islami, Shia Ulema Council, Markazi Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadees, Pasban, All Pakistan Clerks Association, All Sindh Primary Teachers Associa-tion, Sunni Tehrik, Paretabad Samaji Tanzeem and Human Rights Movement of Pakistan International.
Speakers at the processions said that blasphemy would not be allowed in the garb of press freedom. They said diplomatic relations should be stopped with the countries responsible if they did not apologize.
SUKKUR: Three major protest demonstrations were held in Sukkur on Friday following the publication of the blasphemous caricatures in some newspapers of Denmark and other European countries.
The Ahl-i-sunnat protested in front of the Jamia Mosque.
They asked people to boycott goods of the countries responsible for the blasphemy.
Another protest demonstration was held at the clock tower where the protesters observed a sit-in for one hour due to which traffic remained suspended.
Students of various schools held a demonstration at the Teer chowk.
NAWABSHAH: Protest demonstrations and rallies continued in Nawabshah on Friday.
The Jamat Ahl-i-Sunnat took out a procession which culminated at the press club.
Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and All Pakistan Clerks Association staged protest demonstrations.
Residents of Qazi Ahmed, Daur and Bandhi town staged protest demonstrations and observed shutter down strike.
Strict security measures were taken to avoid any untoward incident.
THATTA: Processions were taken out in Jati, Chuhar Jamali and Sujawal towns on Friday.
In Jati, around 35 various political, social and religious organizations jointly organized a rally.
The protesters also staged a sit-in on the Sujawal-Jati Highway.
A complete strike was also observed in the town.
In Chuhar Jamali and Sujawal towns a procession was taken out by the Sunni Tehrik.
The protesters gathered at the National Highway and staged a sit-in due to which traffic on the Thatta-Badin Highway remained suspended for more than two hours.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Activists of MMA and STPP staged rallies and observed token hunger strike outside the Moro press club on Friday.
The protesters burnt effigies of the US president and the Danish prime minister.
Residents of Kandiaro also took out a procession and staged a protest demonstration.
KHAIRPUR: On call of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, a procession was taken out here on Friday from the Thari town to the National Highway.
The Anjuman Tajiran-i-Khairpur held a protest meeting with other religious organization here on Friday and decided to hold shutter down strike in the Khairpur city on February 19.
BADIN: A complete strike was observed in several towns of the Badin district on Friday.
Business activities and educational institutions remained closed in Tando Bago, Kario Ghanwar and Khorwah towns.
A procession was taken out in the Khorwah town by the Khorwah Shehri Ittehad.
The processions were also taken out in Tando Bago and Kario Ghanwar towns.
MIRPURKHAS: A complete shutter down strike was observed on Friday in the Mirwah Gorchani town.
Markets, business centres and shops remained closed.
A procession was taken out by the Traders Association from the Makki Masjid to the press club.
Another procession was taken out by the Mirpurkhas District Bar Association.
DADU: A large number of citizens and social workers staged a protest demonstration outside the local press club on Friday against the publication of the blasphemous caricatures.
JACOBABAD: The Jafferia Ittehad took out a procession in protest from the main Imam Bargah to the National Highway.
Later, the protesters staged demonstrations in front of the houses of the federal minister Abdul Razzaq Thaheem and provincial minister Mir Naseer Khoso. Rallies were also held by Dawat-i-Islami, All Pakistan Clerks Association, Labour Union and Sunni Tehrik.
SHIKARPUR: A rally was held by the Jamat Ahl-i-Sunnat at the Lakhidar chowk against the blasphemous publication.
