JUI rallies against cartoons

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Feb: 17: Leaders and workers of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam on Friday staged a rally against publication of blasphemous cartoons and called upon the government to sever diplomatic relations with countries where caricatures were published.

The protesters assembled after Juma prayers at the Meezan Chowk where MNAs Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari and Maulana Noor and provincial ministers Maulana Dur Muhammad Pirkani and Maulana Abdul Rahim Bazai and other speakers announced that the protest would continue till Denmark where the blasphemous material was first published publicly apologized.

The speakers criticized the government’s lukewarm response to the sacrilege and said people wanted a boycott of products of Norway, Denmark and France.

They urged the protesters to make the March 7 protest rally in Quetta successful.

They also called upon people to remain peaceful during protests.

They said miscreants and government agents had tried to incite violence during protests to send a wrong message to the international community.
