Govt’s poor stand led to violence

By Our Correspondent

TAXILA, Feb 17: Acting parliamentary leader of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) in the National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan on Friday said that the government’s stand on blasphemous caricatures was different from the general public opinion due to which people came on the roads.

Talking to newsmen at the PML-N Secretariat here, Ch Nisar said that the masses were fed up with the government’s internal and external policies including situation in Wana and Balochistan, soaring prices of daily commodities and petroleum products, growing inflation, unemployment and U-turn on Kashmir.

Ch Nisar said that his party did not approve of damaging the public and private property but what had happened in Lahore, Peshawar, Islamabad and in Karachi on Friday was a proof of the public anger at government policies.

He criticized the government for bypassing parliament while taking decisions on Kashmir issue, relations with Israel and operation in FATA and Balochistan.

Responding to a question, Mr Nisar said that the government wanted to put the caricatures issue on the back-burner and had not severed diplomatic relations with Denmark. He called upon the government to shun its diplomatic and trade relations with Denmark and other countries where these sketches were re- produced.

Earlier, speaking to the party workers, he said the government was fast losing public support due to its faulty policies and failure to solve the problems of the people.

Ch Nisar said that only two political parties — PML (N) and PPP — had roots in the masses and the official Muslim League would collapse soon after the exit of Gen Pervez Musharraf from power.

ROBBERY: Six armed robbers looted cash, cell phones and mobile cards worth thousands of rupees from a mobile shop in Hassanabdal.
