HYDERABAD: Rally planned against Thar express

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Feb 17: The Sindh National Party has announced to observe a black day and hold protest demonstrat-ions and hunger strikes throughout Sindh on Saturday (today) against opening of the Khokhrapar railway service.

Speaking at a news conference here on Thursday, the chairman of the party, Amir Bhambhro, along with Dilshad Bhutto and Ashraf Noonari said the route would allow people to settle illegally in Sindh and this would turn the local population to minority.

Amir Bhambhro said the settlement would convert the local population of Sindhis to a minority.

He claimed that there was no hold of Sindhis left in urban cities of the province.

He claimed that the population of Sindhis was continuously decreasing in the province since 1954 as compared to other groups.

Mr Bhambhro rejected the idea of Jinahpur and division of all resources.

He said his party had informed federal government, foreign ministry and Indian ambassador in Pakistan about the reservations of the people of Sindh about the Khokhrapar-Monabao route.

TRANSPORT COMMITTEE: The Hyderabad Bus Transport Action Committee has criticized decision of the district government to ban plying of buses on local routes.

Speaking at a news conference here on Thursday, leaders of the action committee, Dr Anwar Palari, Manzoor Ahmed Khoso, Hafizur Rehman, Ahmed Shah and Manzoor Ahmed Brohi said that bus owners would park buses outside the district nazim’s office in protest against the decision.

They said the business of the Hyderabad city depended on the people of adjoining areas who visited the city from the outskirts of Hyderabad and then went back on the same buses.

They said that more than 300 local buses were running on various city routes.

They said the local buses also catered transportation needs of thousands of students and office-going staff.

They said the chairman of the transport committee, MPA Aslam Pervez, who was appointed by the district nazim, to control traffic congestion had directed the transporters not to ply any bus in the city.

The action committee leader said that they were warned of cancellation of their route permits if they did not follow the instructions.

They appealed to high authorities to rescind the decision of the district government in the interest of tens of thousands of people.

SAB: The Sindh Abadgar Board has criticized the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) for ignoring representation of growers on the board of directors.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, the president of the board, Abdul Majeed Nizamani, demanded from the government to include at least one grower from each province on the TDAP board of directors.
