KARACHI: Officials told to complete work in industrial estate

KARACHI, Feb 17: Sindh Minister for Labour, Transport, Industry and Commerce, Adil Siddiqui, who is also chairman of Sindh Small Industries Corporation, on Friday directed the officials of SSIC to complete the development works at 100-acre small industrial estate along northern bypass on priority basis so that allotment of plots could be started.

He issued these directives while presiding over 47th meeting of Board of Directors of SSIC at his office.

The meeting reviewed the overall performance of the corporation and the situation at various small industrial estates.

The minister made it clear that industrialists would have to set up units at small, medium and cottage industrial estates within a year, and, otherwise, their allotment would be cancelled.

He also directed the SSIC officials for early completion of development work at the industrial zone specified for women entrepreneurs at northern bypass and suggested construction of boundary wall and a gate. He asked them to seek services of the First Women Bank.

The minister informed that he had asked the chief secretary to ensure that the Karachi Water Board provides water connection to the small industrial estate.

On a complaint, Adil Siddiqui assured that encroachments from small industrial estate Sukkur would be removed in a month.

Earlier, in a briefing, the Managing Director, SSIC, Mehmood Ahmed informed that work on drainage and roads has been completed while efforts were on to get gas and power connections at the estate.

He said that 10 per cent plots at the estate have been earmarked for overseas Pakistanis.

Fatima Surayya Bajia, Shamim Kazmi, secretary, industries Nasar Hayat, members of board Bashir Miandad, Bashir Ahmed, Mirza Ashraf Baig and Amin Khatri, presidents of chambers of commerce and industry Larkana, Sukkur and Hyderabad respectively and others attended the meeting.—PPI
