PESHAWAR, Feb 16: The NWFP government has decided to move the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in connection with the publication of blasphemous cartoons by some European newspapers.
Provincial Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani told media men here on Thursday that the NWFP government had informed the advocate-general in writing about the legal consultation for registering a case with the ICJ against newspapers which published the derogatory cartoons.
He said that the European newspapers had hurt Muslims’ sentiments in the name of press freedom, which was highly condemnable.
“Even though the Muslim Ummah is raising voice against the sacrilegious cartoons, the Western leadership have adopted the posture of silent spectators and are not taking any action against those responsible”, Mr Durrani added.
The chief minister, however, appealed to masses to control their sentiments and adopt a peaceful way of protest.—Online
