KOHAT, Feb 16: Lawyers took out a procession here on Thursday to condemn the publication of blasphemous cartoons in the European press. Chanting slogans against the countries responsible for the publication of the cartoons, they marched from the courts to the Hangu square.
They demanded immediate apology from the Danish prime minister and asked the government to call back envoys from the countries involved in the act.
LEGAL NOTICE: District Police officer Dr Ishtiaq Marwat has served a legal notice on the president of the Kohat Press Club for what the notice say inciting the crowd to disrupt law and order during the Wednesday’s cartoon-related protests.
The police officer has asked press club president Noor Mohammad Bangash in the notice to give reasons why a legal action against him should not be taken under the anti-terrorism law for inciting the crowd. A case under MPO could be registered against him, the notice stated.
Mr Bangash, however, said he had been covering the protest rally. He said Inspector Jehangir Khan had asked him to leave the scene because the crowd, comprising many workers of the banned religious organisations, had been highly charged and could hurt him.
But he had refused and continued to cover the rally, Mr Bangash said.
Journalists have decided to meet the DPO on Friday and explain the situation to him.
