Shoaib grabs winner

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Feb 15: Mir Shoaib Ahmad helped Diamond Paints earn a narrow margin 4-3 win over Lindt Chocolate in the Punjab Cup Polo on Wednesday.

The winners made a stormy start taking 3-0 lead in the first chukker. Asif Tiwana broke the ice scoring a field goal with a long lofted shot.

Ahmed Ali Tiwana doubled the lead cashing in on a fine pass from Asif. Mir Shoaib made it 3-0 with a field goal.

Diego Araya, an Argentinean scored a field goal with a lofted shot hit almost 70-yards away from the goalpost.

Sufi Muhammad Haris reduced the margin further 3-2, scoring a field goal on solo efforts.

In the third chukker, the losers made it 3-3 through Araya’s under the neck shot second goal, before Mir Shoaib struck his second on field attempt which proved decisive as no goal was scored in the fourth chukker.

Five goals by Indian Dhruvpal Godara, including a fine hat trick in the last chukker, enabled AI Khan to draw 5-5 against Bank Alfalah in the first round of eight chukker match.

The second round of four chukkers will be held on Friday. AI Khan led 2-1 lead in the first chukker as Godara converted a 60 and 40 yards penalty hits.

The bankers opened the account with Hissam Ali Hyder scoring twice.

Jota Chavanne, an Argentinean, put the bankers 5-2 ahead by scoring a goal each in the second and third chukker and in the beginning of the fourth chukker to complete hat trick.

But Godara came to rescue AI Khan scoring three goals to make it 5-5.

He converted two 40 yards penalties while struck the third through a field attempt.
