Mumtaz enjoys nice day’s work with four winners

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Feb 15: Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara had a satisfying day after three horses from his stables galloped to victories in impressive style in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.

He won two back-to-back races through fancied five-year-old mare Aie Bahar and four-year-old colt Ghan Chaker while filly Miss Milee completed the feat with triumph in the concluding event.

Having triumphed in the previous outing, Aie Bahar justified her billing when she outclassed closest opponent Haseena-e-Arab with comfortable ease by 12 lengths in the six furlongs third race to make it two in a row.

King Of Mehran, four-year-old colt, finished further 10 ˝ lengths behind to finish third while filly Queen Of Mirwa completed the frame.

The next race saw colt Ghan Chaker picking up spoils in field of eight contestants after Blue Breeze was withdrawn. He too, won by 12 lengths. He was chased by Lucky Step and Arab Hi Arab for the next two places. Shan-e-Arab settled for fourth position.

Three-year-old filly Miss Milee clinched the concluding event in a start to finish bid. Falling 11 lengths behind was Bilal Choice.

Pir Pagara’s three victors were trained by Mumtaz Ali who earlier sent another winner Silent Love in the opener.

Jockey Muhammad Essa, M. Nasir and riding boy Zaki Zakir also ended the day on a happy note with double apiece.

Earlier, bay mare Silent Love carrying a weight of 7-13 on her back romped home by 11 lengths to clinch the opener.

Mare Princess Ridda presented his owner-cum-trainer Amir Ahmed the fifth race chased all the way by Chand Aya and Lucky View.
