Daniyal to defend title

LAHORE, Feb 15: Daniyal Jehangir will defend his title in the 29th Punjab Amateur golf championship to be held at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club from Friday.

It is the first occasion, the Punjab championship is not being organized at the Lahore Gymkhana course.

Around 200 golfers including men, seniors, veterans, juniors and ladies are competing in the competition.

The prominent in the men’s event besides Daniyal are Vaqas Ahmed, Tariq Mehmood, Moeed Yousuf, Imran Ahmed, Dr Aamir Zafar, Tariq Chaudhry, Asif Mehdi, Shafiq Bhatti, Imran Zubair and Rehman.

Secretary Punjab Golf Association (PGA) Rana Zulfiqar said 134 men, 13 ladies, 10 juniors, 60 seniors and 19 veterans have sent entries.

The men will compete on all three days while ladies on Friday and Saturday, juniors on Saturday and Sunday, seniors and veterans on Saturday.

Faisal Qureshi, who had won the Punjab title for four times but is now acting as director golf and recreation said 6550 yards long course had fairways which were supportive and good shots would be duly rewarded.
