PESHAWAR, Feb 15: Speakers at a dialogue on the Responsibility of Media have condemned the publication of sacrilegious cartoons in some European newspapers, terming it a bad omen for the fragile world peace. The dialogue was organised by the Khyber Union of Journalists at the Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday.

They criticized the irresponsible and bigoted stand of the Danish daily which first carried the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), hurting the feelings of Muslims across the world.

They lashed out at other Eur-opean newspapers which reprinted the blasphemous sketches.

Haji Mohammad Adeel of the Awami National Party, Haji Mohammad Afzal of the Pakistan Muslim League, Hameed Jacob of the Christians Social Welfare Organisation asked saner quarters in European countries to come forward and express solidarity with the Muslim Ummah.

They said that the double standards demonstrated by the European media towards Muslims and their Holy Prophet (PBUH) would destroy the existing friendship, cooperation and relations between Europe and the Muslim world.—Bureau
