KARACHI, Feb 15: Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain has appealed to the countrymen, particularly the people of Sindh, to register their protests against the publication of blasphemous drawings in the Western media in a peaceful manner.
In a statement issued from London on Tuesday, he deplored the publication of blasphemous sketches.
The MQM chief appealed to heads of other countries to persuade their media to avoid publication of any material, in the name of freedom of expression, which could hurt the feelings of members of other cultures, communities and religions.
Talking about the reaction of Muslims across the world over publication of blasphemous material, Mr Hussain said the response was a natural phenomenon.
He also appealed to the Muslim world, including Pakistanis, to register their protest in a peaceful way and avoid harming foreigners’ properties or consulates.
He further deplored the damage done by protesters in Lahore and appealed to the countrymen to demonstrate a peaceful posture during any protests likely to be staged in the coming days.—APP
