KARACHI, Feb 15: The Sindh Health Minister, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, on Wednesday warned quacks to close down their so-called clinics by the end of this month or otherwise face stern action under the law.
Presiding over a meeting at his office, the minister said quacks get encouraged due to lack of health facilities in the public health sector.
He said the quacks were one of the main causes for the spread of Aids, and hepa-titis B and C, adding that these so-called doctors were playing with human lives in villages.
The minister directed the EDO of all districts to prepare lists of quacks and submit the same in 15 days to him and the respective district police officers so that a coordinated action can be taken.
Qaimkhani directed the EDOs of all districts to ensure the availability of medicines and presence of doctors and staff in hospitals.
He also asked them to formulate recommendations for getting rid of quacks through legislation.
The minister asked the EDOs that they could take action against the quacks under sections 269 and 270 of PPC, sections (B)39, (I)54, A-54, (I)67, (A)67 and (B)88 of the SLGO 2001.—PPI
