Munir emerges leader

RAWALPINDI, Feb 14: Muhammad Munir posted a second round of four-under 68 to take lead among professionals in the Open golf championship at Rawalpindi Golf Club on Tuesday.

With a two-round tally of 142, Munir now has a one stroke lead over his nearest rival Imdad Hussain of Lahore Garrison, whose two round score is 143 gross.

On the joint third spot after two rounds were Muhammad Sajid and Irfan Mehmood, both from Rawalpindi, who have identical score of 146 each.

Shahid Javed Khan had emerged as leader in the professionals’ first round on Monday with a card of two-under 70 but he fell way behind as his two-round tally now reads five-over 149.

In the senior professionals category, there was a tie between Ghaniur Rehman and Muhammad Iqbal of Lahore Gymkhana. Ghani finally won against Iqbal in the sudden death play-off.

The tournament carries a total prize money of Rs. 500,000 for the professionals and senior professionals.

In the amateur net, overnight leader Hassan Rafi moved to third position with a net score of 143. Shahid Waraich is on the second position with a net score of 141.—APP
