KHAIRPUR, Feb 14: Growers of Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze and Nawabshah districts may suffer massive losses as a result of a breach in the Rohri canal at RD-323 near Kandiaro.

Water will not reach the channels in these districts till next week and crops in the command area will suffer losses.

Irrigation department sources said that 7,000 cusecs of water was released into the Rohri Canal from the Sukkur Barrage on Tuesday against a capacity of 14,000 cusecs and it would take about three days to touch its full level.

No inquiry committee could be set up by the Sindh irrigation minister till Tuesday to ascertain the causes of breach.

The chief engineer of the Sukkur barrage, Moham-mad Nawaz Memon said that he was not aware of any official inquiry.

No such written order was received in this regard, he added.

Our Naushahro Feroze correspondent adds: Two advisers of the Sindh government visited four affected villages due to breach in the Rohri Canal near Kandiaro.

They distributed bags of flour, sugar and other items among the people.

The advisers, belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Ayub Shaikh and Nusrat Aziz along with trucks of sugar and flour bags and other items visited Javed Panjabi, Ali Khan Mangrio, Noor Ahmed Khoso and Bahadur Mangrio villages.

The villages were inundated due to breach in the Rohri canal.

The advisers assured the villagers of further help.
