LAHORE, Feb 14: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday accepted 14 nomination papers out of 37 filed for Senate seats from Punjab and rejected 23 after scrutiny.
Of 22 nominations filed for general seats, the commission accepted eight and rejected 14. 0f eight nominations filed for technocrats seats, three were accepted and five rejected. Of seven nominations received for women seats, three were accepted and four rejected.
The commission accepted nominations of the ruling PML candidates, Federal Minister Javed Ashraf Qazi, former state minister Muhammad Ali Durrani, Naeem Husain Chatha, Sardar Jamal Khan Leghari, Syed Javed Ali Shah and Mian Abdul Sattar on general seats and Muhammad Akbar Khwaja, S.M. Zafar and Haroon Khan on technocrat seats. Nominations of Prime Minister’s Adviser Nilofar Bakhtiar and Mrs. Gulshan Saeed were accepted on seats reserved for women.
The commission accepted the nomination papers of PPP candidate Sajida Mir against a reserved seat for women and Dr.Zaheeruddin Babar Awan against a general slot.
Nomination papers of the sole PML-N candidate, Ishaq Dar, were also accepted.
