Couple shot dead

RAWALPINDI, Feb 14: A man and his wife were shot dead by an unidentified killer in Dhoke Matkal on Tuesday, while a taxi driver was killed and a policeman injured while chasing highwaymen in Islamabad, police said.

In the first incident, a man, identified as Yousuf, and his wife, Bilquees Begum, were shot dead by an unidentified killer in Dhoke Matkal on Tuesday.

Yousuf and Bilquees were living with their three grand- children Khurram, 10, Adeel, 9 and Iqra, 5, as their mother had been in jail in a murder case.

Police said someone rang the doorbell of Mr Yousuf’s house. As he opened the door, a man shot him dead and then his wife when she rushed to the rescue of her husband. Police said the motive behind the double murder was being investigated.

In Islamabad, a cab driver, Shahid, was shot dead, while a policeman travelling in the cab was shot and injured by highwaymen on Kashmir Highway.

Abid Mehmood, posted at Shalimar police station, was going in a cab (LHV-5650) driven by Mr Shahid when he noticed a car being attacked by some persons travelling in another car.

On seeing the culprits, Mr Mehmood directed the driver to chase the culprits. When the culprits saw that they were being chased, they stopped their car and opened fire at the cab, killing the driver on the sport and injuring the policeman.

Meanwhile, some robbers looted Rs2 million from a salesman in Islamabad, while a person was deprived of Rs25,000 and a car in the jurisdiction of Banni police area on Monday night.

Atif Mehmood complained to the I-9 police that a salesman of his company, Abdul Qadeer, was going to a bank to deposit Rs2 million when two persons intercepted him in Sector I-9/2 and made away with the cash.

Farhan Zahoor complained to the Banni police that he was going home in his car (RIY-9798) when four persons travelling in another car stopped him near Asghar Mall Chowk and forced him to hand them over the car. They also snatched Rs25,000 and a mobile phone.
