Reserved Senate seats sought for minorities

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 13: The All-Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA) on Monday urged Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu action against non-representation of minorities in the Senate.

In a press release APMA chairman Shahbaz Bhatti also urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to stop the Senate election. He said reserved seats were allocated for Fata, women and technocrats in the upper house, whereas the minorities were discriminated against in this regard.

He said minorities were given representation through reserved seats in the district, provincial and national assemblies. He said the Constitution guaranteed equal rights for all citizens of the country irrespective of their caste or creed.
