Ethiopian wins in Tokyo

TOKYO, Feb 12: Ethiopian Ambesse Tolossa produced a superb finish to win the Tokyo International Marathon on Sunday and deny Japan’s Toshinari Takaoka a second straight title.

The 28-year-old Tolossa pulled away at the 37-kilometre mark and continued to increase the gap over Takaoka in an impressive finish in chilly conditions.

KENYAN VICTORIOUS

HONG KONG: Kenyan runner Simon Bor strode to victory in the 2006 Hong Kong Marathon Sunday with a time of 2:14:18, organisers said.

Bor won top honours after leading from the half-way mark in the 42-kilometre race.

The annual race was marred by the hospitalisation of 20 runners. Two of them, both male aged 32 and 53, were in a critical condition, hospital officials said.—Agencies
