Probe against poor construction

SIALKOT, Feb 11: District Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema has given vent to his disquiet over the use of substandard material in the construction of girls hostel at Government Allama Iqbal College for Women.

During his visit to the college, the district nazim said the contractor had not only used substandard material but also disappeared after leaving the construction incomplete.

He said the hostel building was to be completed with an estimated cost of Rs20 million with a sole aim to provide better residential facilities to hostel students.

Mr Cheema said that he ordered a strict probe into the alleged corruption of the contractor and negligence of officials of the building department.

He also directed the district officer (buildings) to trace the contractor and ensure early widening of the college’s link road from 14 to 16 feet.

The district nazim was informed that only 14 teachers were meant for over 3,000 students as against the 22 sanctioned posts of teachers for the college.

Similarly, only four employees of grade four were working in the college as against the 28 sanctioned posts. He was also informed that the college had no watchman, gardener and sanitary worker.

The district nazim assured early solution to all problems of the institution.

Faisal was admitted to hospital three days ago after drinking along with his friends Amjad, Arif and Nasir in Challeyki village, Daska. The three had died before getting medical aid.
