LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Feb 11: A college student was killed and two of his colleagues injured when Khasadar force opened fire on a group of protesters in Jamrud on Saturday.

Students of Government Degree College, Kohi Sher Haider had blocked the Peshawar-Torkhum road in protest against the kidnapping of their Principal Sabir Shah. The principal and his son were on their way to the college when their car was intercepted by gunmen at Mandi Kas in Sipah area.

The armed men dragged Mr Shah from his car and took him along.

Soon afterwards, students of the college took out a procession and blocked the highway to press the Khyber Agency political administration for the recovery of their principal.

Relatives of the students alleged that while negotiations were under way for opening the road, the Jamrud assistant political agent ordered the Khasadars to forcibly remove students from the road.

During the ensuing scuffle, the Khasadars resorted to firing, injuring three students.

Third-year student Aurangzeb later succumbed to his injuries at the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar, while two of his college mates, Khalid and Haroon, received minor injuries.
