Political change must to address public issues, says PPP

ISLAMABAD, Feb 11: The government is trying to divert public’s attention from the core issues by engaging them in meaningless debates, PPP Information Bureau Central Coordinator Farzana Raja here on Friday said.
The coordinator, in a statement, said the government had failed to address the problems of the people who were suffering due to unemployment, inflation, deteriorating law and order situation and the absence of real democracy.
The regime had proven over the last more than six years that it had no solution to the problems of the people, she said, adding that the masses would continue to suffer if there was no political change in the country in the near future.
Ms Raja said the government had showed its inability to announce a rebate on sugar, the prices of which had touched the sky as the commodity was now being sold at Rs42 per kg in a country which was predominantly agricultural.
“The common man is now unable to take even tea at the breakfast.”
PPP, she said, would be organizing a series of seminars on public issues in major cities of the country. The first of such seminars would be held on February 14 in Islamabad.
She criticized the lack of democracy in Pakistan and violation of the Constitution by a man in uniform. An unelected person got his vote of confidence and now possessed the power to dissolve assemblies, which showed the type of democracy present in Pakistan, she added.
The PPP leader said the masses had completely been excluded from the policymaking process and political institutions were being targeted so that these could not grow and flourish.
Two former prime ministers — Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto — would come back to the country because it was their right to contest the forthcoming elections, she said.
