KARACHI, Feb 11: The Senate Chairman, Mohammadmian Soomro, on Saturday emphasised the need for imparting quality education to and proper upbringing of youngsters so they can meet present day needs.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the annual prize distribution ceremony of the KN Academy held at its Malir Campus on Saturday.

The Senate chairman pointed out that education without quality was meaningless because the world with modern communications had become very small and quality was a compulsion.

He was of the view that education was a basic requirement for any society and for the development and progress of any country.

He said there was a need for institutions providing quality opportunities to its students.

Soomro stated that shortfall in government resources had created a much needed requirement for the private sector as well as philanthropists to step in. He was happy that the business community and society had stepped into helping fill the gap.

Soomro stressed that one thing that they should focus on was the upbringing of youngsters and not just education. He called for imbibing qualities of tolerance, national integration and good human beings in them.

He also highlighted the significance of research and technological development.

He congratulated students who had won prizes owing to excellence in studies as well as in co-curricular activities.

The Chairman of KN Academy, Khalil Ahmed Nanitalwala, shed light on various problems faced by the institution.

Students presented skits, tableaux and welcome songs on the occasion.

The function was also attended by Former Governor Sindh Lt-Gen (Retd) Moinuddin Haider, Consul General of France in Karachi Cierre Seillan, and a former Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University Zafar Saeed Saifee.—APP
